One of my favorite things about the fall is getting to use produce that isn’t available all year long. Pumpkin is a great ingredient because it can be used in so many ways and it has amazing health benefits. Whether you’re buying pumpkins for carving, sipping on pumpkin lattes, eating pumpkin pies or using pumpkin to cook with, one of the best benefits that is usually forgotten is that it’s a natural beauty booster! This orange gourd is great when used as an ingredient in foods but it’s even better when used as an addition to your weekly skin regimen.
Pumpkins are rich in vitamins A, K and C and minerals such as zinc, copper, magnesium and potassium which are nutrients that help hydrate dry skin. Pumpkins are full of beta-carotene, an essential antioxidant that helps exfoliate your skin. The special blend of antioxidants and moisturizing texture help make it the perfect ingredient to use on your skin.
If you’re carving pumpkins with your friends or your kids, just save the scraped out gooey insides to use later for an easy DIY body scrub. I prefer to use fresh pumpkin but you can use canned as long as you make sure it’s 100% pure pumpkin puree! This home-made pumpkin body scrub is useful to use beginning in October, all the way through the holidays and the winter season.
